Include your app version and build (shown in Preferences), device model, iOS version, what you expected, and the steps that caused the problem. Screenshots can help, but remove personal details first. Do not send your complete backup or private vehicle records unless needed and agreed upon for a specific support request.
Getting started
Add a vehicle, then use Mileage, Fuel, or Expenses to enter records. Open the gear icon for Preferences and Backup & Restore.
How do backups work?
Turn on Automatic backup in Backup & Restore. VehiCal saves recovery copies locally and attempts to upload them privately to iCloud. Check Last verified backup to confirm an upload. Offline uploads wait and retry while the app is active; iOS can suspend background work.
Is an exported CSV a complete backup?
No. CSVs are reports. Export complete backup creates a .vehicalbackup recovery file including vehicle photos and full records. Use Save to Files to place it in iCloud Drive or another location you control. A file saved under On My iPhone remains on that device.
How do I restore?
Open Backup & Restore, run the recovery check, and choose an iCloud backup, local recovery copy, or .vehicalbackup file. Review the preview before confirming. Restore replaces current records, so newer entries may be removed. VehiCal saves a local safety copy first. Keep an exported recovery file outside the device before major changes.
How many backups are retained?
Choose 10, 20 (default), or 50 regular backups. Pending uploads and the three latest before-restore safety copies are additional. Reducing the limit requires confirmation. Turning automatic backup off does not delete existing backups.
Can two people sync their vehicle records?
Not in this version. Backup and restore are recovery features, not live shared-vehicle syncing.
What if wheels are difficult to use?
Choose Number pad or Keyboard / dictation in Preferences. VoiceOver uses number-pad mileage entry and labeled date fields. After editing a date, finish editing or choose Apply date before saving.
Can I import older VehiCal exports?
The importer supports the legacy VehiCal mileage and gas-expense export formats. It does not support arbitrary CSV layouts or legacy expense imports.
